Katy Perry shares video for the new Pikachu-inspired song “Electric”: Watch

Katy Perry shared a new song called “Electric”. It was recorded in conjunction with Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, and Pikachu appears on the artwork that teased the song. He can also be seen in the music video of the track, which is directed by Carlos López Estrada. See below.

Katy Perry did “Electric” with Monsters & Strangerz and Jon Bellion. She said in a statement:

When I visited the Pokémon Cafe while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic. It brought me back to my junior high years. When I got the call to take part in the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was thrilled. The themes of the song – resilience, igniting your inner light – have guided my life and also paralleled the story and characters of Pokémon. Pikachu is the more advanced form of Pichu. So in the video you see the younger version of me with Pichu and me in this day and age with Pikachu. We both keep evolving and still maintain a sense of playfulness.

Pokémon’s 25th anniversary gifted the world a post-Malone cover of Hootie and the Blowfish song “Only Wanna Be With You”. A compilation album, Pokémon 25: The Album, is slated for release this fall through Capitol Records.

Earlier this year, Perry held “fireworks” to wrap up President Joe Biden’s opening ceremony. Read more about Katy Perry on Pitchfork’s “200 Best Songs of the 2010s” list.
