Crimson Desk Speak: Watch Gloria Estefan replicate on her near-fatal 1990 bus accident
Thirty years after a traumatic and almost fatal bus accident Gloria Estefan shares gratitude for their loved ones.
In 1990 singer "Conga" and "Get on Your Feet" broke their backs and had surgery after suffering a bus accident on a snowy Pennsylvania road on a snowy Pennsylvania road. Emilio Estefanand her then 9 year old son, Nayib. According to The Miami Herald, Gloria slept in a bunk and landed on the floor on impact. At the time, doctors feared she was paralyzed and could no longer have children.
During the episode of Red Table Talk: The Estefans on Wednesday November 11th, Gloria recalls how she felt after the crash. Together with her 25 year old daughter, Emily Estefanand her 53 year old niece, Lili Estefan, she explains how the event inspired her 1991 single "Coming Out of the Dark".
"When we were writing this song, your father said," I want to show you, I wrote it down on the day of your accident when I was in the helicopter, "says Gloria to Emily. Emilio shares," At that moment I saw a little light come into my eye and wrote it on a piece of paper: "Come out of the dark. We'll be fine."
