E !: Which spices should people with limited cupboard / storage space buy as a priority?

CH: Well, I always like the best bang for my buck. For spring, I really enjoy using and getting McCormick cilantro because I always talk about how I love a good pucker. Wait for it: cilantro is a spice that deserves a lot more love, and I know that most people don’t associate cilantro with cilantro, but it is the seed of cilantro. As for a dry spice, cilantro is the bomb. Well, lemon extract is something people automatically think is for baked goods like cakes and muffins. But it also works well in sauces and soups to add a little tart punch and just to balance out that flavor, so I love lemon extract. And I think it’s an intensifying lemon juice, just a drop that really blooms things for you with a dash of flavor.

Also paprika and spiced paprika. Right now I’m making some cabbage vegetables and using smoked peppers instead of meat to keep it vegan but still very flavorful. Some others: pepper, garlic powder, ground mustard. If you’re making cheese dishes and like the spicy cheddar, ground mustard is the spice that gives you that boost. It’s always in my pantry. And cinnamon, I always need cinnamon.
